Zeppelin Boy, 2017 - “The first step is always the hardest”

This sculpture is an invitation to reflect upon the challenges posed by any new beginning.

It pays homage to the challenges met head-on in the creation of the Zeppelin Airship.

Hörl's sculpture depicts a boy holding an LZ3 which was an experimental Airship first flown in 1906.

Zeppelin Boy is a stylised depiction of a statue called the Zeppelin Fountain erected in Friedrichshafen in 1909.

The figure on the original fountain symbolises the global success of Friedrichshafen's manufacturing business based on the development of its airship industry. Having miraculously survived Allied bombing during World War II, the original piece is still erect and unscathed.

In 2017 The Zeppelin Museum invited Ottmar Hörl to develop a new temporary installation. The installation covered 200 square metres and turned Friedrichshafen's urban space into an "art location”.

This is a real Ottmar Hörl original, stamped with the artist's name - Designed and crafted in Germany. Delivered via express shipping to you in New Zealand.

All the sculptures are made of break-proof, non-toxic plastic material and are suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

All the sculptures are weather-proof, however, like any other material for outdoor use, they are exposed to climatic conditions. For lasting colour intensity, we recommend installing them in a sheltered place.
